Convocation is a ceremony usually organized by the universities.
However the trend has reached the schools and colleges wherein they have
started organizing their own convocation ceremonies. The university faculty or
staffs organize this event for the senior batch completing their course of
studies. It is the most important and eagerly awaited day in a student’s life
wherein they reap the fruit of their hard work and dedication delivered during
the course of studies at universities. The students feel proud to be present
for this day as they are appreciated for their performance and get a pat on
their back. In the convocation ceremony, the degrees are conferred upon the
students by a head. The head also mentions the names of the students who have
excelled in their performance and have contributed to the institution.
The attire for the convocation ceremony is usually
the formal cap and a gown which is known as academic regalia. Again it differs
from one university to another depending upon their choice of color and design
of clothes. It is known that the academic regalia were adapted from the oldest
and reputed universities like – University of Cambridge and University of
Harvard. Before this attire was used as a daily uniform but now it has been
used during the convocation ceremonies.
Convocation ceremonies are sometimes misunderstood
with farewell. Farewell is basically students enjoying the last day of school
or college, organized by the junior batchmates for their seniors whereas the
convocation ceremony appreciation day for the labor of students and conferring
them with the degrees. It is an event where the students come enthusiastically
and proudly to enjoy their appreciation. The feeling of throwing the caps in
the air with joy above the heads is one of the major highlights of the
convocation event. It is proud gesture by students showing student’s their
blissful happiness and satisfaction after receiving their degree. This gesture
is a dream of every student hidden somewhere in the corner of their minds.
Convocation is the students’ proudest moments
wherein they celebrate the happiness of their achievements in front of their
family, friends, and the eminent dignitaries present at the event, celebrities
present if any and amongst the public. Completing a university degree is a
proud moment for every university students and this happiness shared on a
larger platform adds cherry to the cake. It is a matter of great satisfaction
for both the students and the university. The convocation not only marks the
celebration of students’ excellence at the course it is also a symbol for the
beginning of a new phase in the students’ life either in further education or job.
Students get the pleasure to share the stage with the reputed dignitaries of
the industry telling their stories and getting a piece of experience and advice
from them for their shining future. The convocation ceremony which proves to be
a proud moment for students fills the atmosphere with the inspiring
motivations, happiness and cheerfulness and gives a head – start to the
students for beginning the next level of their career and future in a positive
